Women in Politics

Dear South Carolina Legislators,

As you know, women make up 51% of the state’s population, but you may not have realized that few of the state’s Boards and Commissions reflect that figure. In fact, of the boards and commissions organized by Congressional Districts, most have less than 27% women. Some have zero women on their boards. The law states:

“The General Assembly shall strive to assure that the membership of the board is representative of all citizens of the State of South Carolina.”

It is the not only the right thing to do to comply with this law, but it is also the best thing for our state to have women in leadership positions. In this spirit, we are asking that you vote for the eminently qualified women who have applied to fill the vacant seats that are coming up for your consideration.
